Winterize Your Cracks

In most areas north of the Tropics, winter can be extremely hard on our tennis courts. Most damage is done where substantial quantities of water are allowed to seep through cracks and settle in the base and earth beneath the surface.

When the temperature drops below freezing, this water turns to ice, expanding as it freezes, enlarging the cracks and further damaging the court foundation.

This phenomenon can be greatly reduced by filling your cracks prior to the winter freezes. It doesn’t look real pretty, but neither do large cracks, and even though these patches will crack slightly, they will allow only a fraction of the water intrusion that would be likely if not winterized.
